The Centro de Estudos e Formação Aquiles Estaço, Lda, is the owner of the Escola Profissional Fialho de Almeida, a Vocational School that is situated in the south of Portugal, in a small town, Vidigueira, in Beja’s district. This Centre is a Private enterprise in the area of teaching and it was created in the 1st of September on 1999. The School was born from a contract between the Portuguese Ministry of Education and the City Hall of the towns of Cuba and Vidigueira (in July, 1991), that are its owners. It provides professional or vocational courses (10 courses), that gives students the secondary level and professional qualifications. The school promotes international projects since 2003 (Leonardo da Vinci-Mobility and Partnerships-, Comenius, - Language Assistent/Host School and Sócrates / Comenius and Grundtvig). It’s a rural, mostly agricultural region. For some years now we have made a protocol with some Cape Verde City Hall in order to receive some students (about thirty) from that country and provide them with a secure and specific technical and social education. This brings us many challenges in terms of cultural diversity which are not as easy to solve as they may look. Also because we are in a considered poor resources region countryside we often battle against some lack of technological means. Our School, approaches professional education in a perspective that privileges the development of the abilities techniques, allied to one strong personal and professional preparation. Baixo Alentejo region is one of the poorest regions of the European Union, it has a lack of enterprises and a there are a large number of unemployed. Women, specially above 50 and with low education, have few expectation in life, they stay at home or they are housekeepers, with low financial resources. We intend to promote a better knowledge in our women, to promote their skills, in a non formal way, to share ways of doing, to set qualifications, who can fill the demands and the needs of today's world.This new experience and project results will help the people to be involved into society life, into educational, social and work activities. It also give us the chance to improve and to realize socioeconomic knowledge: about the new ideas in adult education in the context with social inclusion of disadvantaged women.
